On Saturday, Donald Trump made it clear that he wasn’t backing down on the controversial and widely criticized comments he made about NFL and NBA players who express their unhappiness over the current political situation in America by refusing to stand during the national anthem.
“If a player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the NFL, or other leagues, he or she should not be allowed to disrespect Our Great American Flag (or Country) and should stand for the National Anthem,” Trump tweeted.
“If not, YOU’RE FIRED,” he continued. “Find something else to do!”
On Friday, at a rally for Alabama Republican Senate candidate Luther Strange, the president said he thought NFL team owners should fire players who protest standing for the national anthem by taking a knee or sitting down.
“For a week, be the most popular person in this country. Because that’s a total disrespect of our heritage,” Trump said. “That’s a total disrespect for everything we stand for.”

Hours later on Saturday morning, Trump tweeted that he would not invite the Golden State Warriors to visit the White House, shortly after Fox & Friends covered some comments Stephen Curry made on Friday about how he didn’t think his team should visit the White House to celebrate their championship win.
“You can talk about all the different personalities that have said things and done things — from Kaepernick to what happened with Michael Bennett to all sorts of examples of what has gone on in our country that has led to change,” Curry told reporters.
“We’re all trying to do what we can using our platforms, using our opportunities to shed light on that. That’s kind of where I stand on that,” he continued. “I don’t think us going to the White House will miraculously make everything better, but this is my opportunity to voice that.”

The president voiced his disapproval by tweeting, “Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team. Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!”

In response to the president’s tweets, both the NFL and The Golden State Warriors have issued statements standing behind their players’ freedom of speech.
On Saturday morning, NFL commissioner Roger Goodman said, “The NFL and our players are at our best when we help create a sense of unity in our country and our culture. There is no better example than the amazing response from our clubs and players to the terrible natural disasters we’ve experienced over the last month.
“Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities,” he added.

And on Saturday afternoon, the Warriors came out with their own statement.
“While we intended to meet as a team at the first opportunity we had this morning to collaboratively discuss a potential visit to the White House, we accept that President Trump had made it clear that we are not invited,” The Warriors said.
“We believe there is nothing more American than our citizens having the right to express themselves freely on matters important to them,” the team continued. “We’re disappointed that we did not have an opportunity during this process to share our views or have open dialogue on issues impacting our communities that we felt would be important to raise.”
“In lieu of a visit to the White House, we have decided that we’ll constructively use our trip to the nation’s capital in February to celebrate equality, diversity and inclusion — the values that we embrace as an organization,” they added.

Numerous celebrities — including Diddy — have also joined in standing behind the players, causing a resurgence of the #TakeAKnee hashtag on social media.
In August 2016, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick made headlines for refusing to stand for the national anthem.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick said at the time. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder Apologize After Retelling ‘Goofy’ Story About Throwing Out Birth Control
by Maria Pasquini @ PEOPLE.com
Sat Sep 23 14:04:04 PDT 2017
On Saturday, Nikki Reed shared a statement from her and her husband Ian Somerhalder about how sorry they both were about the controversy stemming from an interview where they discussed how they decided they wanted to have a child.
“To anyone who has been affected by reproductive coercion, we are deeply sorry,” Reed, 29, and Somerhalder, 38, wrote in a joint statement on Twitter. “That is an extremely serious issue, and women’s rights is something that is incredibly important to both of us. It is something we’ve been very vocal about, and something that is very close to our hearts.”
“We never expected a lighthearted interview we did poking fun at EACH OTHER and how WE chose together to get pregnant,” they continued. “A goofy moment in Barcelona with our two best friends and the anticipation of our journey together as we went from two to three, to turn into something representing a very serious matter.“
“However, if this somehow sheds light on a topic that definitely needs mainstream attention, then we are grateful for the unintended consequence,” they added. “It’s a shame that outlets chose this as their way into a very serious discussion, as we are certainly not qualified to be the faces of this topic.”
“We are two happily married people who chose TOGETHER to have a baby. The end,” they continued. “Love, Nikki and Ian.”

In an interview with Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy Podcast, Reed and Somerhalder revealed that while vacationing in Barcelona, Spain, in 2016, he went into her bag and threw out her birth control pills – while she was watching.
“It was the beginning of the pack, so I had to pop all those suckers out,” Somerhalder said.
The couple laughed about the whole incident, going on to share that the decision to start a family was made together with their close friends so they could all hopefully raise their children together.
But some people felt that the incident was troubling.
“Dear writer. Here’s my note to you on irresponsible journalism,” she wrote, alongside a screenshot of a lengthier message addressing an “article this morning claiming my husband tried to ‘force (me) into pregnancy?!’ ”
RELATED VIDEO: Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed Expecting First Child
“When you actually listen to the podcast (which I’m sure you didn’t) you’ll hear how ‘unforced’ I felt,” wrote Reed. “Ha! Also, ‘unconsented’ bull—- is you speaking on my behalf in a story admittedly taken out of context for the purpose of stirring up drama WITHOUT my approval. ”
Continued the Twilight alum, “Don’t talk about consent to me. And lastly, how dare you try to cast a dark shadow over one of the happiest most memorable days of my life – you’re not only disrespecting me but my baby.”
“Oh, and next time you try to stand up for women by writing an article ‘about women’s rights,’ try properly conveying the way I felt,” concluded Reed. “It’s a shame that this was your way in. You have a platform, write about things that matter by using truthful stories, not gossip.”
In some earlier messages on the social media site, Reed further championed women’s rights, writing, “We should be talking about these things, but using a funny interview between married ppl & twisting it to perpetuate gossip is irresponsible.”

Reed and Somerhalder welcomed their first child, daughter Bodhi Soleil, on July 25.
The couple also talked about planning for Bodhi’s birth during the podcast, with Reed admitting that while she didn’t suffer morning sickness, she dealt with overall fears about pregnancy.
“I think the thing that plagued me the most, actually, was the medical industry,” admitted Reed. “Just all the rules and guidelines and paranoia, and all the things they put into your head about what you could possibly do wrong.”

Natalee Holloway Mystery: Man Who Claims He Dug Up Her Bones Is ‘Not a Credible Source,’ Say Aruban Police
by Jeff Truesdell @ PEOPLE.com
Sat Sep 23 17:00:49 PDT 2017
A man who provided an ever-shifting account about his claim that he dug up Natalee Holloway’s remains in Aruba was deemed “not a credible source” by an Aruban police chief in Saturday’s final episode of a docu-series about the mystery.
But that didn’t diminish the pained disgust of Natalee’s dad, Dave Holloway, who observed that the man apparently kept and hid a plastic baggie of unidentified dug-up bone fragments “as a prize, so to speak,” according to the six-part Oxygen series The Disappearance of Natalee Holloway.
After filming the series that followed Holloway and private investigator T.J. Ward on the trail of the man who says he helped remove and destroy Natalee’s remains in 2010, Holloway said DNA tests revealed that bone fragments discovered on the series turned out to be human skeletal remains.
Testing done in the U.S. linked the bones to a European and Caucasian ancestry, like Natalee, but could not identify a gender or further biological lineage, according to a forensic scientist who worked with Holloway and Ward. Additional testing on the bone material is scheduled for October 6.
But Aruban police and the Aruban prosecutor’s office disagree on the finding, and said the bones are likely an animal’s, and the man who made these claims on the series has not been arrested in the case.
In fact, the Oxygen series ended as it began: with unanswered questions about the fate of the Alabama teen, long-presumed dead, who vanished on the last night of a May 2005 high school graduation trip to the island.
Ever-Changing Stories About Natalee’s Remains
In earlier accounts, according to the series, the man who took credit for his role had claimed that he accepted $1,500 from his friend Joran van der Sloot, the longtime suspect in Natalee’s disappearance, to move Natalee’s remains from a national forest and dispose of them elsewhere.
(Van der Sloot, among the last men seen with Natalee, is now serving prison time for a murder conviction in Peru. He was arrested and questioned but never prosecuted for Natalee’s disappearance, and despite once offering to tell an attorney for Natalee’s mom, Beth, where he hid the remains, he has maintained his innocence.)
Next, the man — who has admitted to a heroin addiction — claimed the remains were buried in a different spot, within walking distance of a residential cul de sac, and that after he unearthed them, the remains were mingled with dog bones to disguise their origin before being taken to a morgue for cremation.
• Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Click here to get breaking crime news, ongoing trial coverage and details of intriguing unsolved cases in the True Crime Newsletter.
Then, he said van der Sloot himself joined him on the dig-up of the alleged burial site, and the two men poured gasoline and set fire to Natalee’s skull in a cave before they “pummeled” the bones for hours, then rented a fisherman’s boat to dump the remains at sea.
In the concluding installment, the man said it wasn’t a cave but rather under a canopy of trees where the skull was burned.
The ever-shifting explanation led Aruban Police Chief Dolfi Richardson to say on the series, “What he was saying was not possible. And then he changes his story, ‘No, no, I wasn’t there.’ I mean, there were so many holes we could shoot in his story that we knew that he was not really a credible witness.”
As versions of his account are discredited in the episode — not only by police, but also by Ward’s investigative team — an informant who first brought the man to Holloway and Ward’s attention urges the man to produce more evidence that he’s telling the truth.
That led the man to change his story again, saying that after the remains were dug up and the bones crushed, they were mixed with a dog’s and buried in a pet cemetery.
• PEOPLE’s special edition True Crime Stories: 35 Real Cases That Inspired the Show Law & Order is on sale now.
Separately, near the base of a wall behind a rental property where the man claimed that he and van Der Sloot broke up the bones, the man then dug up the baggie of bone fragments “that he kept as a trophy,” according to the informant in a subsequent phone call to Holloway.
That revelation still failed to sway the Aruban police, who told Holloway and Ward: “Even if he did help, what we need is evidence. He said, ’These are the bones of Natalee.’ He presented us that. And it was bogus. I mean, it’s not even human bones. So for me … he’s not a credible source.”
‘I Need to Know’ About Bones, Says Natalee’s Dad
Holloway and Ward then asked to take the four small bone fragments for themselves back to the U.S. from Aruba, after the police chief says that by doing so, the alleged evidence could never be used for any criminal prosecution in Aruba.
“That was not really my concern at that point in time, because how did you determine they were non-human?” Holloway said. “I need to know, and I never got a clear answer on that. … Now I can have them tested.”
When Holloway eventually does have them tested, and forensic scientist Dr. Jason Kowolski confirms the human DNA, a startled but still-skeptical Holloway replies, “There is a possibility, though, that this could be somebody else.”
“There is,” Kowolski answers.
“Even now, right now, I’m thinking, OK, they’re somebody else’s bones,” says Holloway. “I’m not going to believe it until the final test is done. … And I’ll be on pins and needles until that test is determined one way or the other, I’m sure.”

Chip and Joanna Gaines are the definition of marriage goals, but their relationship didn’t necessarily have a fairytale start.
Joanna agreed to go out on a date with Chip after meeting him and his roommate “Hot John” — who she actually tried to approach minutes earlier, but was too shy — in the waiting room of her dad’s auto shop. She had second thoughts, however, after Chip arrived an hour and a half late to pick her up.
“He didn’t apologize for being late, either. He had so much confidence. I don’t know. I can’t explain it. Only Chip could be an hour and a half late and have no one mad about it,” Joanna writes.

The chapter continues to describe the timeline of their relationship, which didn’t actually start until months after they first went out, when Chip (in typical guy fashion) finally called Joanna back.
“I’d made a bet with Hot John to see who could hold out the longest before calling our dates back,” Chip writes “I really wanted that fifty dollars from John! That’s the only reason I didn’t call.”
After they went out a second time, the rest was history.

Jenelle Evans has tied the knot!
In videos shared by guests on Snapchat, Evans could be seen walking down the aisle in a white lace dress with a long white veil. Eason wore a white dinner jacket for the nuptials.
The couple exchanged their vows under a flower canopy.
The reality star’s children were all in attendance for her wedding: 8-year-old son Jace from a previous relationship, 3-year-old Kaiser from a previous relationship with Nathan Griffith, and Ensley.
Evans has been adamant on Teen Mom 2 that her mother, Barbara, would not be invited to the wedding as their custody battle for Jace unraveled on the show.
Barbara told PEOPLE in July that her daughter “excludes us out of her life.”
“She’s been saying she’s having her wedding, running around with her family of friends, but you know what she says? ‘My mother Barbara is not invited,” the 64-year-old said. “She’s not inviting me to her own wedding. It’s very painful.”
Despite her mother’s absence, Evans’ excitement for her big day didn’t go ignored on social media. The reality star began a countdown to her wedding on Instagram, sharing frequent photos of herself in a white, lacy corset or in front of a mirror getting ready.
Her young family also went on vacation to New York City, where they were outfitted for wedding attire, including a flower girl dress for Eason’s daughter Maryssa, and a suit for Jace.

In her new memoir, Read Between the Lines: From the Diary of a Teenage Mom, Evans opened up about her past relationships and how Eason was different from those she’d dated in the past.
“He was so different from the other men I had been with,” Evans wrote in her memoir. “I finally snagged a good man.”
“I didn’t want to jump right into a man’s arms or into his bed,” she added. “I wanted to take this one slow. If it was worth my time, I would know.”

“We entertain around her nap schedule now,” Berkus, artistic advisor for LG Studio, told PEOPLE at a breakfast on June 8, which celebrated the sleek line of high-end appliances he helped design.
But when Poppy isn’t snoozing, Berkus, 44, and husband Jeremiah Brent, 31, keep her busy with poolside play dates that are a far cry from a formal outdoor gathering.
“Our home is now filled with blow up toys from Target in the pool as opposed to margaritas,” Berkus said.

“We throw food on the barbecue, we’ve actually even had a taco truck come once,” Berkus said. “We do put out snacks for the little ones, and they sit and throw them in the pool.”
Although the guest list has been tweaked to include Poppy’s younger crowd, the design-savvy couple couldn’t be happier with their new scene.
“It’s a welcome change,” Berkus said.
